Powerful Performance.
Anywhere you need it.

The Kore Compact EI-TOF-MS is a modular, computer-controlled time-of-flight mass spectrometer available as a bench-top instrument. Its compact size and transportable design make it suitable for moving between laboratories, production sites, field locations, or customer facilities where rapid and sensitive gas analysis is required.

The system is well suited to production and research applications, including process monitoring, catalysis studies, reaction kinetics, VOC monitoring, cleanroom air quality, and odour analysis. It analyses gases at pressures from millibars to 10 bar and can support stable long-term measurements as well as short-duration, high time-resolution experiments.

How It Works.

The Compact EI-TOF-MS uses electron ionisation to ionise gas-phase analytes before time-of-flight mass analysis. In EI, a beam of electrons, usually at 70eV, removes an electron from the analyte molecule during collision. This produces molecular and fragment ions that create a characteristic mass spectral pattern.

Because EI is a hard ionisation technique, it often produces many fragment ions. These fragmentation patterns can be compared with established databases such as NIST, supporting compound identification and mass spectral deconvolution. EI is especially widely used for VOC and SVOC analysis.

Gas samples can be introduced through different inlet systems. The capillary inlet supports very rapid analysis of inorganic gases and higher-concentration VOCs, while the membrane inlet improves sensitivity for VOC detection. The instrument can also be coupled to a gas chromatograph, including Kore’s PREFICS system, to operate as a fast MS detector for separated compounds.

Operating Modes.

High Time-Resolution Mode
For short-duration experiments, typically up to around 20 minutes, the system can stream information from all detected ions directly to disk. The data can then be replayed with the experiment time resolution selected by the user, subject to counting statistics.
This allows users to request full mass spectra in time slices as short as 100ms, or to plot the time evolution of any selected species at 100ms resolution. This mode is useful for extracting maximum information from short-term or rapidly changing experiments.

Process Monitor Mode
For longer experiments lasting many hours or days, it is not practical to store every recorded ion continuously. Instead, the user can request that a mass spectrum of a defined duration is acquired at defined intervals.

In this mode, selected species are plotted live against elapsed experiment time. A full mass spectrum can also be saved at each data point, allowing users to reconstruct the time evolution of any mass species after the experiment at the time resolution set by the recording frequency.

Integration
The Compact EI-TOF-MS can be used as a stand-alone bench-top gas analyser or integrated into wider analytical workflows. It can connect to gas inlet modules, heated inlet lines, desorption systems, GC interfaces, and customised process gas sampling arrangements.
For field or multi-site use, the instrument can be transported in reusable padded wooden crates or optional shock-protected flight cases. After transportation, the time to operation is approximately 30 minutes, making the system suitable for mobile or site-based measurement work.
